Premekon: Reliable and responsible design and manufacturing of steel structures
Premekon Oy is a company officially established in 1984, specializing in the design, manufacture, and installation of steel structures, such as walkways, stairs, and railings.
“We value reliability and responsibility in customer cooperation,” says CEO Jussi Tiippana. “Our clients mainly come from the forest industry, energy sector, and steel industry, but we also serve other industrial fields.”
The company’s clientele includes major forest industry equipment suppliers like Valmet and Andritz, as well as end-users such as Stora Enso, Metsä, and UPM. “We have several dozen clients, most of whom are equipment suppliers. In addition to the forest industry, we also serve the energy and steel industries,” Tiippana explains.
South Karelia as a Platform for Growth
Premekon sees a bright future and plans to expand its collaboration with existing clients. “Among our clients are many business units where we haven’t yet worked but see great potential,” Tiippana explains. The company also intends to invest in green transition projects, which are currently a hot topic. “Projects such as hydrogen plants offer us new opportunities,” he adds.
The business environment in South Karelia presents both challenges and opportunities. “We are satisfied with the availability of labor, but retaining skilled labor is a challenge,” Tiippana acknowledges. “Logistically, we are not too far from the ports, but unfortunately, investments tend to be concentrated in Western Finland. However, we have always received good support from local business players and city authorities.”
Sustainable Development as Part of Daily Life
Premekon is committed to the principles of sustainable development in various ways. “We have the ISO 9001 quality management certification as well as environmental and occupational health certifications,” Tiippana mentions. “We have also made significant investments, such as a heat recovery system that improves energy efficiency.”
The company has switched to using Lappeenranta’s green district heating and is currently calculating its carbon footprint. “Recycling is important to us, and we have added sorting points at all our work areas,” Tiippana says. Premekon is also part of Lappeenranta’s Greenreality Network, which promotes sustainable development.
Premekon strives to optimize the use of raw materials and reduce waste in its production. “We have adopted environmentally friendly paints and chemicals that, for instance, lower the company’s VOC emissions,” Tiippana explains. “Putting our own house in order is the first step, and we are now also focusing on our clients’ sustainable development goals.”
A Strategic Partner for Growth
Premekon aims to be a strategic partner for its clients by offering comprehensive solutions from design to installation. “We want to be known not just as a machine shop but as a design office offering holistic solutions,” Tiippana emphasizes.
The company has conducted a market analysis on green transition investments and networked for new projects. “We have contacted new potential clients and highlighted sustainability aspects on our website,” Tiippana shares. “Our goal is strategic partnership.”
Premekon is strongly committed to responsibility and sustainable development, which is reflected in all its activities. In South Karelia, the company sees growth opportunities, especially in green transition investments. “We are actively involved in the region’s development and work closely with local players,” Tiippana concludes. “Our goal and values are to grow and develop together with our clients, while taking care of our environment and community.”
Premekon exemplifies a company that combines traditional industry with modern sustainable development principles, creating sustainable growth and future opportunities.
