Data infrastructure solutions for energy and industry

South Karelia is developing a data economy ecosystem that connects data centre investments, research and established businesses. Work with partners on power supply, cooling and digital solutions for data infrastructure and industrial applications.

Building and operating data infrastructure requires power supply, cooling, automation, design, commissioning and maintenance services. South Karelia’s industrial expertise and research provide a foundation for developing these solutions and establishing manufacturing or service operations. The Pajarila investment is one starting point for the emerging ecosystem.

The aim is to connect data infrastructure with regional energy and industrial systems. Development opportunities include power conversion, flexible energy use, liquid cooling, heat pumps and useful heat recovery. The same technologies can also serve electrifying industries.

Research and established businesses support development

LUT University's expertise in electrical and thermal engineering and electronics reliability testing supports product development. Energy and process companies and equipment manufacturers contribute industrial applications. Regional cooperation and networks across Finland and internationally help bring together expertise from development through piloting to commercialisation.

Software and industrial AI complement these capabilities. Simulation, digital twins and intelligent controls support process development and resource optimisation. Visma Solutions, Gofore, Syncron Tech and Mevea represent the region’s established software and digital expertise. Danfoss Editron, ETD Finland and SpinDrive contribute to its electrical technology base. Partnerships can serve both data infrastructure and wider software businesses

Digiklusteri, the regional digital cluster, connects businesses and experts interested in digital development and supports the use of AI, cybersecurity and digitalisation. Greenreality Network provides connections to energy and environmental solutions. Metalreality Network opens collaboration with regional metalworking and subcontracting companies in equipment, structures and maintenance.
We identify offices, development space, production facilities and service premises.

The Skinnarila campus supports research and talent connections. Business areas such as Mustola and Selkäharju can be assessed for manufacturing and service logistics. LUT, LAB and Sampo offer different talent pathways. Electricity availability and other technical requirements are assessed for each location.
