The company combines technology utilization, business development, and cybersecurity under one roof, eliminating the need for clients to coordinate multiple vendors. "In the IT world, technical and business needs often don't align, leaving clients to bridge the gap. Piisku was founded to eliminate that disconnect," summarizes co-founder and head of technology business, Klaus Zaerens. Piisku's philosophy is built around the project experiences of its two founding members. Strategic project management and deep technical architecture expertise go hand in hand, and this experience is shared with employees: continuous development is expected from everyone. "When someone joins us and eventually leaves, they should depart as a better expert than when they arrived," says Zaerens. "This ensures that clients benefit from the latest expertise, whether in cybersecurity, sensor technology, or realistic AI applications." ## Services Deliver Measurable Benefits All client engagements begin with a comprehensive assessment to determine the expected benefits of a new system, process change, or security control. If no added value is identified, Piisku does not proceed. "We guide clients to first identify the business benefit; there's often no budget for hobbies," Zaerens notes. Once the goal is clear, solutions are built with security integrated from the start, not as an afterthought. Results are measured and reported transparently, allowing clients to see where their money went. Piisku also enhances clients' purchasing capabilities. The company helps determine when a sophisticated system is worthwhile and when clarifying processes suffices. "Sometimes we candidly state that a new, sophisticated system won't solve the problem—it's about processes and minor software changes," Zaerens explains. When clients understand the rationale and cost, technology becomes an investment, not a risk. ## Lappeenranta – A Growth Platform for Innovation Lappeenranta was chosen as Piisku's expansion site due to the presence of LUT University and LAB University of Applied Sciences. The campus's strong research in energy technology, sustainable solutions, and "green IT" aligns with the company's goals to develop responsible digital services and automate ESG data. The city actively supports digital experiments and offers test platforms for companies, reducing the time required for service development and pilot projects. The region also hosts several national security authorities and defense sector projects, creating natural demand for Piisku's cybersecurity expertise. With clients nearby, the team can work closely without extensive travel, deepening collaboration with clients and authorities. Lappeenranta's vitality units support the formation of new contacts, and the city offers flexible office spaces ranging from downtown to the campus area. High-quality living and leisure facilities make it easier to recruit experienced professionals from other parts of Finland—important for Piisku, which prefers to hire senior-level individuals eager to continue learning. "There's a great atmosphere here and many potential partners, from public security authorities to growth companies. The combination of research, security, and practical business is fertile ground for us," Zaerens concludes.
